Solaize City lights the school parking lot with solar energy, thanks to autonomous street lights from Novéa Energies

The village of Solaize is located 15km south of Lyon and also belongs to the Chemical Valley. This municipality thus offers a green setting, coupled with a genuine interest in energy saving research. And this is reflected in several solar projects carried out with Novéa Energies, including the latest, the installation of 8 solar lighting sets on the school parking lot.

The project was carried out by the Lyon Region Energy Management Federation. The will of the local authority and the federation was to “enhance this urban space with renewable energy furniture” as explained by Mr Mouyon, referent technician. This environmental project has thus enabled energy savings while being integrated into an exterior development approach. The lighting focused on the parking lot on the one hand, and the pedestrian path alongside the gymnasium and leading to the school on the other. All in a wooded setting.

To serve these two applications at best, while taking into account the vegetation present on the site, Novéa Energies has proposed a combination of several models. In the parking lot, there are 2 Combi Top 2 for lighting, with one bracket, and 3 Combi top 5, with double brackets. These solar lighting sets offer 7.6m poles with a light height of 5m. Thus, the panels are high enough to produce the necessary energy despite the vegetation, and the luminaires, lower, provide effective light on the ground. The models have the same finish with a RAL Grey 2900, St Maxime brackets and Griff S luminaires from Ragni. The only difference is in their performance, the single bracket offers a 120Wp panel and a 532Wh battery and the double brackets are made up of a 310 Wp panel with a 1064Wh battery.

In the pedestrian path, there are 3 Combi Top 3, ie a 185 Wp panel with a 696 Wh battery. The pole here is 5.6m high, as it is further away from the trees. This autonomous street light is also made up of the Griff S luminaire, which is exclusively available in solar lighting at Novéa Energies, as we are subsidiary of the Ragni group. The RAL is also Grey 2900, to blend into the background.

The parking lot is used for dropping off and picking up children at school, but also for using the gymnasium. All these solar lighting sets therefore operate based on presence detection. They remain on dimming mode at 10% throughout the night, and switch to 100% lighting for 45 seconds at each detection, thanks to their Lacroix City SIR detector installed on their pole.

This nice project was installed in March 2021. The federation liked the offer from Novéa, and found the installation of these solar street lights quite simple. Following the installation, the feedback is very positive, “the solar street lighting solutions integrate well and the photometric result with the Ragni luminaires is perfect”, says Mr. Mouyon.
